Scott Pearson SPRINT COLLECTION Story

My
dad owns the sprint Maverick and sprint Pinto. My Sprint
convertible went to a new owner around Omaha, NE. My sprint
coupe went to Colorado and my sprint fastback is still here in
my hometown.
My plans were always to restore the entire collection and
display all 5 cars together. Unfortunately the 3 Sprint Mustangs
were used as business collateral and were sold at the close of
my business.
The Maverick was found in Denver just outside the
old Mile High football stadium. The owner had called the junk
yard to pick it up and they were going to pay $25.00 for it.
So I bought it for $25!
It cost $75 to rent a u-haul to get it back to Nebraska. It was
a running driving V8 car.
The Pinto was owned by a friend of the family.
Total fluke find! Literally 2 miles from my house! The friend
that still owned it drove it to high school and then to college.
She called it Pee Wee. Another cheap find for $50.00
The Sprint Convertible was found through MCA
Mustang Times classified ad. I verified the VIN through the
registry and Rex was a previous owner. Rusty car from Virginia
but complete and numbers matching. Price was $1500 + $800
shipping to Nebraska.
The Sprint Coupe was found through the Denver Post
Vintage classified ads. 351-2V automatic. Owned by the 2nd
owner since about 1978. His new wife wanted it out of the garage
so she could park her Lexus there so it had to go. $1400 was
the price and the poor guy was taking pics as I pulled away
with it on my trailer.
The Sprint Fastback came from MN and it was more
solid then the convertible but had some collision damage on the
drivers side quarter. It came with a NOS full quarter! 302-2V
with a 3 speed. It was cheap at $800. The NOS quarter
panel is worth that much by itself. This one stayed local after
it was sold and I know exactly where it is so I am hopeful that
I might be able to buy that one back.
That is the story of the 5 Sprints. Stay tuned as I plan on
putting the collection back together someday. The convertible
will of course be the hardest to find since dad has the maverick
and pinto.
